A marijuana grow house was discovered in Gwinnett County on Saturday when a seemingly drunken man led a Gwinnett County police officer there.
A DUI task force police officer had attempted to pull over a driver he suspected of driving under the influence after he witnessed the driver commit several traffic violations. The driver stopped, but instead of waiting for the officer, he jumped out of the car and ran. He fled to a nearby home and locked himself inside. At that point, the officer called for backup. Once the home was surrounded by police and some officers began to approach, the suspect came out of the house.
When the suspect came out, police officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana from the open door. They obtained a warrant and seized 69 marijuana plants, 1,490 grams of processed pot and cultivating equipment from the house. They also found a second suspect hiding inside. The confiscated marijuana is reported by police to be worth more than $327,000. Both men were arrested on drug charges.
The 23-year-old driver from Sugar Hill, Georgia faces charges of DUI and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. He also faces several traffic violation charges, including making an improper turn, driving with an expired tag, driving without headlights after dark, and driving without a license.
The other man, 25, faces drug selling charges.
Both men are being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
