Senate Bill 67 is stating that the Georgia driver's license test could only be given in English passed the Senate.  Currently, the test can be taken in 13 different languages.   Senator Jack Murphy of Cumming, chairman of the Public Safety Committee, said English-only is a public safety issue.  The bill must now go back to the House to be passed and it is uncertain when it will reach the rules committee, some hope it never will.

Several other states have enacted an English-only driving test, Alabama being one of the firsts.  Alabama, like Georgia, offered the test in 13 languages beginning in 1970s but stopped in 1991.  Georgia will be 1 of 9 to make an English-only driving test mandatory.
