Maybe you're reading this blog because you were among the first people to be ticketed in Georgia's seat belt crackdown, which began yesterday. Until June 6, Georgia law enforcement will be on a "Click-it or Ticket" campaign.
Law enforcement can stop a motorist just for not wearing a seat belt. No other reason is needed.
Gwinnett County traffic ticket defense attorneys will probably be busy as law enforcement officers, concentrating on seat belt violations, also ticket motorists for other violations as well.
Click-it or Ticket was a program that started in North Carolina in 1993, and this is the tenth year Georgia has been concentrating on seat belt violations.
This year, the Georgia general assembly passed a law requiring seat belt use in pickup trucks. The bill has not been signed by the governor. Millions of dollars in federal grant money have been kept out of Georgia's treasury because as of now, Georgia law does not require seat belt use in pickup trucks.
In addition to Click-it or Ticket, Georgia drivers are looking at "100 days of Summer H.E.A.T.," a safe driving campaign that began last week. A "Super Speeder" law tacks on a $200 fine to speeding tickets for 75 mph or higher on two-lane roads or 85 mph anywhere in the state. Gwinnett County speeding tickets attorneys may have their hands full.
