The University of Georgia is currently facing an adverse time when it come to the conduct of some of the members on its football team. According to the Associated Press, Georgia running back Caleb King has become the 11th Georgia football player to be arrested this year. Spokespersons from the university detail that King was picked up by police in Athens for "failing to appear at a court date in nearby Walton County to address a speeding ticket."
The arrest warrant for King was issued when he failed to show up in probate court regarding an outstanding traffic violation. King was being held out at Clarke County jail, with bond set at $300, according to Walton County sheriff Joe Chapman. King was originally pulled over on June 20 for going 76 mph in a 55-mph zone on U.S. 78 near New Hope Road. A warrant was issued for his arrest when King failed to appear at his court date on Aug. 6.
Since March, 11 Bulldogs have been arrested on charges ranging from battery to public intoxication. All of the charges have been misdemeanors.
Additionally, these arrests only come months after former University of Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans was arrested in Buckhead on suspension of drinking while driving and still faces charges of DUI and failure to maintain lane. Evans resigned from his position shortly after the arrest. Also, the Georgia head coach released Demetre Baker early last week after Baker had received a DUI last month.
"King rushed for 58 yards in the Bulldogs' 41-14 victory over Tennessee on Saturday. He is second on the team with 228 rushing yards and one touchdown on the season."
