According to a report by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the lead investigator in the recent Atlanta Eagle gay bar raid was arrested in Cobb County for speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. The officer was arrested and booked into the Cobb County Jail early Thursday morning. He was charged with speeding, DUI and marijuana possession and released on a $1,900 bond. The officer was pulled over at around 2:51 a.m. on Interstate 285 near Cobb Parkway.
Reports detail that the 41-year-old officer was the lead investigator in the September 2009 raid on the Atlanta Eagle, when officers swarmed the location and searched about five dozen Eagle customers. Since the DUI arrest, the officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay. The issue has not been turned over to the Atlanta Police Department's Office of Professional Standards.
When asked about this case, an Atlanta police spokesperson expressed, "this matter has been referred to the department's Office of Professional Standards for investigation. Further comment on this specific incident would be inappropriate. However, Chief Turner expects Atlanta police officers to follow the laws they are sworn to uphold and enforce. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action."
