According to recent reports, a Coweta County woman with a past record of DUI charges was arrested again for DUI by sheriff's officials after driving her vehicle into an 11-year-old boy who was walking with this father. Reports detail that the 27-year-old woman from Newnan was "driving northbound on Welcome Arnco Road in a 1991 Honda Accord and lost control while trying to negotiate a curve. Authorities said the woman hit a mailbox, then continued off the road and she struck the boy who was walking southbound."
News reports on the accident detailed that the impact of the boy's body hitting the woman's vehicle caused heavy damage and the boy was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with critical injuries following the incident. The boy's father expressed that the woman was so disoriented at the scene that she didn't even realize that she had hit his son with her vehicle. As a result of the DUI-related accident, the boy suffered two broken legs, a broken jaw and severe injuries to his face. The father of the boy stuck in the accident expressed, "It'll be a long time before I'm able to forgive her for what she's done to my son...He was holding my hand when she hit him."
Following the incident, sheriff's officials arrested and charged the woman with failure to maintain lane, DUI (drugs), and serious injury by motor vehicle. Investigators in the case commented that the woman has one previous pending DUI charge in Coweta County and additional arrest history.
