According to local reports, a Gwinnett County woman was arrested recently in connection with a hit-and-run car accident involving a day care bus full of children. Police detail that the 51-year-old woman turned herself in a few day following the Feb. 7th crash. A witness to the car accident expressed, "She pushed the gas real hard, slammed into the back of the bus and took off." No children were harmed in the crash. Police told the media that the woman has a history with DUI charges but it's still unclear if the woman was driving under the influence during this incident.
Media outlets found that the woman has a past criminal record and two recent DUI arrests. "On Dec. 11, the woman was booked into jail on DUI and hit-and-run charges. And on Jan. 28, just more than two weeks before the day care bus crash, she was booked into jail on another DUI charge with her blood alcohol level listed at more than 0.10." Officials commented that her license was suspended and she was not supposed to be driving during this most recent accident.
The woman was reportedly able to post bond for the first two pending cases. One of the woman's family members said they have tried to get help for the woman's alcoholism and that she has tried herself.
But they said they've been rejected numerous times because she does not currently have medical insurance. She remained in the Gwinnett County Jail on Tuesday.
