Gwinnett County police arrested Josue Cruz-Ayala, a 19-year-old Lawrenceville resident, last week on multiple traffic violation charges after receiving a call from another driver who told them that Cruz-Ayala was tailgating him and otherwise driving erratically while impersonating a police officer.

The incident occurred in unincorporated Lilburn after the other motorist, Jason Milczek, 30, noticed that Cruz-Ayala was flashing mounted blue and white lights and trying to pull him over.

Milczek suspected that Cruz-Ayala was not a police officer and refused to stop, calling 911 while continuing to drive, instead. He said that Cruz-Ayala then commenced to follow him for several minutes at such close range that he couldn't even see the headlights of Cruz-Ayala's vehicle.

Milczek eventually ran out of gas and pulled over to the side of the road. He said that Cruz-Ayala slowed down, threw a bottle at his vehicle and then drove off.

Milczek was able to provide Cruz-Ayala's license number to the police, who found and arrested him several days later.

Cruz-Ayala faces a number of traffic-related charges connected to the incident. They centrally include the following: fleeing and eluding police; impersonation of a police vehicle; and reckless conduct. Additionally, Cruz-Ayala was charged with making an unsafe lane change and for window tint violations when police located and stopped him.

"I don't know what would've happened if it was my mother or grandmother," Milczek said following the incident.
